Open-mindedness
When we go into a situation with a thought of how it will play out we may not be open to any other outcome. Open-mindedness can look like approaching a situation and being open to taking in new information that could be different than your original thought. It can contribute to you seeing the world through a different lens and building perspective of your life.
Check your perspective by:
· Acknowledge the thought you have
· Explore how this thought could impact how you see yourself in the world
· See if there is any alternative thought that could be relevant
· Get curious and explore different perspectives
I could go into a job interview thinking that the interviewer is going to think I am stupid and I am not going to get the job. This would probably impact how I interpret the interviewer’s comments and questions. It could also impact how I present myself. If I were to entertain the thought that I might possibly get the job I could have a different perspective and experience.
