Pause, Cry, and Process

Writer's picture: McKenzie WilkinsMcKenzie Wilkins

Today I felt an overwhelming sense of sadness (e.g. urge to cry, tight chest, racing thoughts). While exploring my sadness, I realized that the current state of the country has been affecting me. My body was telling me that I needed to take a moment to pause, cry, and process. I felt I needed connection and to feel heard.

Our bodies are amazing in that they communicate to us directly. If we take a moment to listen, we can learn about what our needs may be through our body. Those “annoying” things that happen internally (e.g. tight chest, racing heart, sweating, pit in stomach) are letting us know that something is up. Looking at emotions through a lens of curiosity instead of judgment can help us get to know our authentic selves.
